Juventus' deleted 'Number 7' post sparks Cristiano Ronaldo transfer questions
play
The hype over Cristiano Ronaldo's much-rumoured move to Juventus was thrown into overdrive on Saturday when a teasing video was reportedly posted and deleted by Juventus' official account on Chinese social media platform Weibo.
The video, as captured by a number of Italian media outlets, displays the names of players who have worn the No. 7 shirt for Juventus in the past and asks fans to pick their favourite.
It ends with room for one more name -- leading fans to speculate the post was hinting at an impending move for Ronaldo, who wears No. 7 for Real Madrid and Portugal.
The video shows the names of the six players to wear the shirt since permanent numbers were assigned in the 1990s: Angelo Di Livio, Gianluca Pessotto, Hasan Salihamidzic, Simone Pepe, Simone Zaza and Juan Cuadrado.
Ronaldo, of course, would be No. 7 number seven.
There's no indication that the post was meant as a "leak" of Ronaldo's arrival -- it was posted on the seventh day of July, the seventh month, and it might have just been to celebrate the date.
However, arriving as it did one day after Juventus were instructed by the Italian stock exchange to issue a statement downplaying the rumours in the face of a skyrocketing share price, fans can't be blamed for getting even more excited.
The rumours persisted into the weekend, with Italian TV station Mediaset suggesting that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez could announce at a board meeting on Tuesday that Ronaldo has requested a transfer.

Modric verdict
Cristiano Ronaldo will snub interest from Juventus and stick with Real Madrid.
That’s according to the forward’s Real team-mate Luka Modric.
"Let’s see what happens," said Modric. "I do not think he's going to leave.
"I’d like him to stay because he's the best player in the world, it means a lot and I hope he stays.
"I think he's going to stay, that's my opinion.
"It would be great if he stayed because I can not imagine him in any other European team."

Real Madrid transfer warning
Real Madrid will be making a mistake if they sell Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus, says former Bernabeu chief Ramon Calderon.
"Cristiano is irreplaceable and cannot be compared to anyone in football today," said Calderon.
"Because his talent, his technique and his physical conditions are joined by the permanent desire to always overcome the unreachable.
"In my long life in the world of football I met very few players who, despite their endless prizes, maintain the ambition and obsession to always train to the maximum to continue to be the best, to overcome each day, to find new goals and break new records.
"All this will allow Ronaldo to move forward at the same level he has shown up until today for at least another four or five years."

Hotel rooms booked
Juventus have booked three hotel rooms in Turin as they anticipate Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival, reports in Italy claim.
Juve have lodged an £88m (€100m) bid with Real Madrid in an attempt to prise the Portugal international away.
And they are making plans for when Florentino Perez gives the thumbs up to a deal, according to Il Giornale.
Juventus are said to have reserved three rooms at a top Turin hotel to accommodate Ronaldo and his entourage.
The 33-year-old is believed to have already had a £27m-a-year (€30m) contract sorted out by his agent, Jorge Mendes.
And he's apparently planning to splash some of that cash on a luxury villa when he swaps Madrid for Turin.

Final Ronaldo obstacle for Juve?
It is reported that Real Madrid President Florentino Perez will raise his asking price for Cristiano Ronaldo, but Juventus will pay it.
A fee in the region of €100m was thought to have been agreed between the two clubs for the Portuguese.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport reports this morning that Bernabeu boss Perez is set to lay one final obstacle in the way of the deal being confirmed.
According to the Italian daily, Perez will raise his asking price slightly at a meeting with super-agent Jorge Mendes, scheduled to take place this coming week.
The Madrid President will also reiterate his desire for Ronaldo to publically assume full responsibility for the transfer, should it go ahead.
The former Manchester United forward has been with Los Blancos since 2009, winning four Champions League crowns and two La Liga titles during his time in the Spanish capital.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is also now Madrid’s all-time record goalscorer.
However, he revealed in the immediate aftermath of his team's Champions League final win over Liverpool that
his future at the Bernabeu was in doubt.
Now, it appears a matter of time before Ronaldo is unveiled by the Serie A champions.
