所謂「敵意」，其實是說 please 和 kindly 兩個字的意思一樣，但用的情況和語氣均不同。舉個例，上完第一堂小提琴課，老師同你講，請每天練習，英文就是 please practise every day。一星期之後上第二堂，老師發覺你完全冇練習過，佢會講 kindly practise every day。
由以上例子可見，kindly 呢個「請」，完全冇禮貌可言，反而係帶一種厭惡同諷刺。有個職員，你想炒好耐，今日忍無可忍，要求佢自動辭職，說 kindly tender your resignation 一定比 please tender your resignation 更到位。
