Remember to get your UK Tier 2 visa using your BN(O) passport if you are entitle to one.
Using a BN(O) passport have the following advantages over HKSAR passport -
1) BN(O) passport holders can register to vote in all UK elections. Being on the electoral roll helps you to build up your own credit history in the UK. HKSAR passport holders are not entitle to vote in the UK.
2) HKSAR passport holders, as Chinese nationals are required to register with the local police in the UK while BN(O) passport holders don't need to register.
3) Once a BN(O) passport holder get Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR - 永久居留) in the UK, he/she can apply for some British civil service jobs as a Commonwealth citizen. HKSAR passport holders cannot apply for British civil service jobs until he/she gets British Citizenship.
4) BN(O) passport holders are entitle to get British Citizenship via registration using form B(OTA), which is a cheaper way than naturalisation. (£1163 for registration vs £1282 for naturalisation - both 2017 prices).
You can also exchange your Hong Kong driving licence to an UK one without test as long as you gained your Hong Kong driving licence by a driving test in Hong Kong.

If you have British National (Overseas) status, renew your BN(O) passport before applying for an UK student visa.
