根度簡今季為曼城上陣50場入11球，包括上仗英足盃決賽梅開二度，協助球隊以2比1擊敗曼聯，表現獲各界激讚，令呢位32歲德國國腳去留問題備受關注。根度簡將於月底約滿，至今仍未能同會方達成續約協議，當中最大分歧係曼城只願意開出1年短約畀呢位老將，但根度簡要求起碼2年合約。

根據英國《太陽報》爆料，經理人「老根度簡」已代囝囝拒絕曼城提供嘅新約，除非「藍月亮」改變主意加碼開出長約。

早前已盛傳西甲勁旅巴塞隆拿計劃簽入根度簡，阿仙奴現時亦加入爭奪戰，願意向根度簡提供一份長約，而且人工比佢現時14萬鎊(約136萬港元)周薪更加高。阿仙奴自從2019年年底從曼城請來當時哥迪奧拿嘅助教阿迪達領軍之後，開始推行「曼城化」，頻頻簽入「藍月亮」球員，包括加比爾捷西斯、辛真高，早前亦傳出睇中被曼城外借去拜仁慕尼黑嘅祖奧簡斯路，可見阿迪達對於昔日戰友情有獨鍾，所以希望簽埋根度簡提升實力，下季再挑戰曼城嘅英超王者地位。
