You are planning to stay in the UK to work for 3 years after graduation.

If you manage to get a Tier 2 visa and meet the requirement for Indefinite Leave to Remain and registration / naturalisation for British Citizenship, then why not stay for another 3 years to get your British Citizenship before leaving for Hong Kong?

Another 3 years in the UK can't do much harm!

I'm already holding a British Passport.

If you are a British Citizen by descent, please remember to retain evidence of your stay in the UK like council tax bills, P45 and P60. You can register your overseas born child to become a British Citizen after three year continuous residence in the UK prior to the birth using form MN1

Studying is fine - you are the one that need to provide the evidence to the Home Office. However, please note that if you want to register your child as a British Citizen under section 3(2) of the 1981 British Nationality Act, you, the British Citizen parent of the child, require to be a British Citizen by descent at the time of your own birth. This means that if you have a Home Office registration certificate under the 1990 British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act, you may not register your overseas born child under section 3(2). Please see below for details -

(2)A person born outside the United Kingdom and the qualifying territories shall be entitled, on an application for his registration as a British citizen made while he is a minor, to be registered as such a citizen if the requirements specified in subsection (3) or, in the case of a person born stateless, the requirements specified in paragraphs (a) and (b) of that subsection, are fulfilled in the case of either that person’s father or his mother (“the parent in question”).

(3)The requirements referred to in subsection (2) are—

(a)that the parent in question was a British citizen by descent at the time of the birth; and

(b)that the father or mother of the parent in question—

(i)was a British citizen otherwise than by descent at the time of the birth of the parent in question; or

(ii)became a British citizen otherwise than by descent at commencement, or would have become such a citizen otherwise than by descent at commencement but for his or her death; and

(c)that, as regards some period of three years ending with a date not later than the date of the birth—

(i)the parent in question was in the United Kingdom or a qualifying territory at the beginning of that period; and

To get Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK using a Tier 2 (General) visa, you
will need to meet the income requirement is over £35k p.a. unless your job was in the shortage occupation list for the last 6 years.

Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK is not 英籍! The Home Office can revoke your ILR if you were -

1) sentenced to prison in the UK for 12 months or more

2) lived outside of the UK for more than 2 years

You will need to have ILR for at lease a year before you can either register (using B(OTA) form for BN(O) passport holders only) or naturalise (using form AN for HKSAR passport holders) to become a British Citizen. Registration using form B(OTA) is a cheaper method than naturalisation. Form B(OTA) registration to become a British Citizen costs £1163 (2017 prices) while naturalisation using form AN costs £1282 (2017 prices).
