Bayern Munich’s Uli Hoeneß was not happy Hansi Flick went public with transfer demands; thinks pressure will be on him with Germany

In an interview with Sport1’s Doppelpass (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich board member Uli Hoeneß defended Nico Kovac’s time in Bavaria and was not a fan of Hansi Flick going public about his transfer demands.
“I want to stand up for Niko Kovač. We got the double four months earlier (before he was sacked),” said Hoeneß. “He is now working very successfully in Monaco. But he didn’t manage to get the whole team behind him, this problem never existed under Flick.”
While an admirer of what Flick did while at the helm of Bayern Munich, Hoeneß did not appreciate how Flick vocalized his unhappiness about a lack of input on transfers to the public.
“The coach has authority. But you shouldn’t make public demands about transfers. If he goes to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge internally, then everything is fine. He was partly cause of the row,” Hoeneß said. “Hansi has always seen himself as a coach for the footballing side, the economic side has not interested him.”
All-in-all, however, Hoeneß knows Flick was excellent during his tenure.
“Hansi Flick had a very good team. He managed to get the team behind him. The atmosphere was excellent, they walked through fire for each other,” Hoeneß remarked.
As for how Flick will do in his transition to the German national team, Hoeneß think the heat will be on Flick.
“The pressure on him is incredibly big. He’s coming as a messiah,” Hoeneß said.
