Hello from Canada!
加拿大油 2019-10-17 02:24:50 Hello!

I'm a university student from Toronto. Ask me anything! We have a very large community of people from both Mainland China and Hong Kong here, so I've seen some of the conflict here at home. At my university, I saw that someone had torn down a flier for the Chinese Student Association's basketball game a few days after the NBA situation started.

Nearly everyone I know is behind the protests in Hong Kong, and is very angry about the recent Chinese censorship around the world. The opinion in Canada's Chinese-Canadian and Hong Kong-Canadian communities seems more mixed, with some people supporting the protests and some not. Usually younger people are more likely to support the protests.

We're having an election coming up in Canada, so feel free to ask me about that as well.

周庭老公 2019-10-17 02:47:05 What do you think about the student from Mainland China?
加拿大油 2019-10-17 02:53:01 No, I'm of European ancestry. I have Chinese and Korean cousins though.
大灣區揸lift人 2019-10-17 02:53:20 Cant understand the china ppl mind from oversea what the fuxk do they want ,those ppl already leave from china to the freedom country and still hate other people who fight for freedom
加拿大油 2019-10-17 02:55:32 It's hard to know what to think because they often keep to themselves. They usually sit together, have conversations in Mandarin, and often have a lot less interaction with students from other countries.

I've made quite a few friends who are from Mainland China, but often they're people who moved to Canada when they were very young, and hang out with everyone else instead of just other Chinese students.

Lumina 2019-10-17 03:00:43 Hey there! Welcome!
Im not quite familiar with Canadian politics, do you know if the majority of the politicians support Hong Kong or just mostly remain neutral or even worse support the CCP?
加拿大油 2019-10-17 03:00:47 The motivation seems different for different people. Young people from Mainland China in Canada are often very supportive of the CCP. I once had a girl in my class get offended because I was comparing the size of Taiwan to the size of South Korea. I didn't even say that Taiwan was a country and that was still too much for her.

Older people tend to value harmony more than freedom I think. I know someone who is from Hong Kong who is against the protests simply because of the violence and disruption. She doesn't mind the CCP encroaching on Hong Kong because the way she puts it, “it's their country.”
加拿大油 2019-10-17 03:06:39 Nearly all Canadians who are not of Chinese descent will say that they are against the CCP if you ask them, but it's not something that they think about very often. The recent controversies with American companies have gotten people thinking about it a lot more, though. Chinese-Canadians are more mixed. Some are for the CCP, some are against.

Pretty much every political party (both left-wing ones and right-wing ones) in Canada is against the CCP, but Canada makes concessions because China is one of the biggest customers of canola oil and other products produced by Canadian farmers.

There are currently two Canadians being detained in China that the Canadian government is trying to get back. Canada claims they were only arrested as revenge for Canada's involvement in the arrest of a Huawei executive.

THE REST (EXCEPT SOME MIDDLE ASIA PLACE AND AFRICA WHICH MAYBE PRO CHINA)
Zooe 2019-10-17 03:16:50 That sounds like what is happening in my school. Mainland students usually come from different areas but they just prefer to communicate with other Mainlanders, it might be the problem of language. However, at least for now, it is more because of conflicts in ideologies and political orientation.
Zooe 2019-10-17 03:23:50 It sounds more reasonable, your politicians just do their duty because they are earning money for taxpayers. If our politicians can learn more from yours and stand with us, that is better.
加拿大油 2019-10-17 03:24:44 I hope they can too.
