Statement clarifying about crowdfunding donations
We noticed this morning that LIHKG members had promised to give excess donations from their latest ad campaign to Hong Kong Watch. We very much appreciate the generous sentiment. However, we were not informed of this plan, and unfortunately cannot accept the donations.
The reason is that as a registered UK charity, we are obliged to perform due diligence on all donations and verify our sources of funding in order to comply with Charity Commission’s risk management and transparency requirements. In view of this, we regrettably cannot take any donation from crowd-funded sources both in the UK and overseas to be in line with all applicable rules and regulations.
We want to thank the advert organisers for swiftly clarifying the matter on their ‘GoFundMe’ page. We hope that they find another good cause for the money and wish them all the best with the campaign.
