Dear World,

We are a group of concerned citizens among the 2 million protestors marching on the streets of Hong Kong. This is our sincere plead for your help to liberate us from the fear of losing our freedoms. We are sure you will ask, ‘why should I care?’ Here’s why.

In 2019, the Hong Kong SAR Government proposed a bill that allows the extradition of alleged “fugitives” from Hong Kong to China, where conviction rate is 99.9% and prisoners are treated with apparent violations of human rights.

High-profile bankers, businessman, tourists, or even ordinary citizens who visit or reside in Hong Kong can be arrested and sent to China for trials for crimes they might or might not have committed. Hong Kong will lose its international status as a free economic zone, which is long leveraged and enjoyed by the world’s most prominent businesses, including yours.

Which is why 2 million protestors had gone onto the streets. Not only are we guarding the safety of our own citizens, we are also protecting your rights and safety. We sat in streets unarmed with only helmets and umbrellas, but we were suppressed with 150 shots of tear gases shot in close proximity, or being shot in the head by baton, rubber bullets and bean bag rounds. Numerous protestors were unjustifiably arrested, interrogated and characterized as “rioters”, when all they did was to participate in a peaceful protest to protect our and your rights.

How you can help
Our chief executive Carrie Lam has then announced suspension of the bill. However, suspension is different from withdrawal. In response to the G20 summit and the Trump-Xi meeting, we urge your help to let anyone who can help know our requests:
1. Unconditional release of all protesters with no further repercussions;
2. An independent investigation committee to review the appropriateness of the use of brutality by the Hong Kong Police on 12 June; and
3. Withdrawal the extradition-law amendment bill completely with no reservation.

Hong Kong’s autonomy against the influence of China has been devastatingly eroded since the handover of administrative power from the British to the Chinese in 1997. We need nothing more than your unreserved support to our cause. From the upcoming G20 summit and beyond, we wish to let our voice be heard by the world that we demand the preservation of Hong Kong’s freedom and administrative autonomy against the Communist Chinese Government. We humbly thank you.

Yours truly,
People of Hong Kong
